The Department of Economics is amongst the elder of the Departments in the college and it has made a qualitative contribution to research and Under Graduate education in economics since its initiation. The college imparts teachings in economics since its inception (i.e. 1963). In the academic session of 1973-74, the college started teaching in economics honors classes for the students. Over the years the Department has evolved to define economics in different ways keeping in tune with the regional, national and international developments. The Department of economics creates a stimulating environment for the academic growth of its students. The faculty members are known for their expertise in finance, development, behavioural and mathematical economics and impart practical knowledge on the subjects. The diversity of specializations of the departmental faculty has promoted multi-faceted research at the Department and has brought a certain depth to the UG courses as well. Along with teaching, the Department recognizes the growing demand for trained manpower in education, industry, government and other sectors as well as nurturing future researchers and specialists in economics.
ABOUT COURSE PROGRAMME:
The department adopted a semester pattern of examination from academic year 2014-15. After one year of semester pattern, the department introduced the “Choice Based Credit System” (CBCS) pattern (i.e. 2015-16) which provided a new direction to the academic aspects and contribution for all round development of students. The Department offers teaching to an Under Graduate courses related to Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Economics and Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com).
HOW TO ENTER INTO U.G. PROGRAMME:
Department of Higher Education, Govt of Odisha has been receiving common application form(CAF) from students under SAMS portal and HE is inviting application for giving admission in different Colleges in the State. UG course consists of six semesters.
