The Faculty of Commerce is an integral part of Science College (Autonomous), Hinjilicut. This prestigious college was instituted in the year 1963. But Commerce as a faculty started in 1965 offering facility for teaching to Higher Secondary (old intermediate) students. This was subsequently extended to the Degree level. However, the teaching of Honours at the Degree Level started in the year 1987. In order to cater the growing needs of Commerce education at higher level, the Post graduate Degree in Commerce was started from the academic session 2010-11.
This Faculty takes pride in the fact that most of the members of staff have attended many state and National level Seminars and Workshops. In order to improve the academic level of the students, the faculty also organizes the seminars regularly in which the students and teachers participate actively. Every year an annual function of the faculty is used to be held in which students are felicitated by prizes and certificates. The faculty organizes a parents’ meet twice a year in which the faculty members meet the parents in order to know their opinion about the performance of their wards. This becomes a good forum of interaction with the parents which helps the faculty members to increase their teaching capability. As a part of extension activity, the faculty members and students visit the nearby villages periodically and make the villagers aware about the different issues such as Consumer Awareness and Legal Protection available to them, different community development programmes of the Govt, use of banking facilities, etc. This is an adventurous step and we are proud to record that the villagers used to wait for our next visit.
